A Good Resource for Picture Books

The 2012 2x2 Reading List has been announced. It's a selection of titles for kids age 2 through 2nd grade. It's always got a wide variety of titles, and I think it's always interesting to see because there's a pretty big difference between a 2 year old and a second grader.

Some of these, such as Blackout by John Rocco and Red Sled by Lita Judge, are books I'm still anxiously waiting for at my library. (Honestly, Red Sled is not even listed in the catalog as being on order...I can't figure that out...Obviously, I don't do any ordering.)

I am incredibly excited to see these two titles about dogs on the list:

RRRalph by Lois Ehlert - a funny tale that reads like a joke. Also, I don't think you can go wrong with Lois Ehlert.

Dog in Boots by Greg Gormley, illustrated by Roberta Angaramo - a cute little dog tries to find the perfect pair of shoes. So fun!

If you're looking for good picture books, be sure to check out the rest of the list.

  1. That's a pretty good list, although 2 years to 2nd grade is a pretty big gap!

  2. Thanks for sharing 2x2! I tend more toward YA, but I love getting to know more picture books and early readers.

  7. My 6yo got a huge kick out of RRRalph last year (when she was 5). We actually bought it to give to her kindergarten class in honor of her birthday and I read it to the class. They loved it! We love Blackout too. I liked Red Sled, but not as much as most of the reviewers.

I'm going to go check out that list!

  8. Love your focus titles in this post. Also agreeing 100% that there is a big difference between 2yo and 2nd grader, but some titles span the gap really well. The beauty of PB World is that there are more than enough "perfect" books for each of these ages.
When Peggy Rathmann accepted her Caldecott award she said she loves to imagine a whole family on the couch and everyone enjoying her books in their own ways.
Glad I found you on the comment challenge :)
